Finding out you have Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NVLD) can feel like a big, scary, daunting thing to work on, but there are workarounds for everything. Questions that might come up include: What is NVLD?, Is it my fault?, Will I ever fit in?, Can I get better?, Who can help me?, What does this mean for my future?, Am I still smart?, and What are my strengths? These are the answers I've discovered through my journey: What is NVLD? - Neurological disorder that affects gross motor skills, fine motor skills, social skills, executive functioning, & visual-spatial deficit Is is my fault? - No, NVLD is based on your brain pattern, not something you've done. Will I ever fit in? - If you think about it from society's point of view, it might be difficult to make friends. However, you have the chance to build your own tribe of others who stand out rather than fit in. Can I get better? - NVLD isn't something that you can cure, however there are workarounds. Who can help me? - Psychologist, therapist, family members who are interested in learning about NVLD and you, and other NVLDers. What does this mean for my future? - Your future is as bright as anyone else's. Am I still Smart? - Neurodivergents excel in creative thinking and shine in areas of interest. What are my strengths? - - Anything language related (writing, reading; aside from comprehension, etc.) - Attention to detail - Areas of interest(if you're not interested, the information psychologically falls out of your head) - Generating creative verbal ideas - Wanting to help others - Auditory memory - involves being able to take in information that is presented orally, to process such information, store it in one's mind and then recall what one has heard. Feel free to comment questions that have come up at the beginning and beyond, stories, advice, tips/tricks, anything related to where you are on your journey 🙂
